Each decade above is a brief recap of the major events going on at the time, and how they affected fashion history.

Women didn't start wearing pants until they went to work in the 1940s, when the men were away at war (WWII). To top it off, if women were married, they were not even allowed to work.

Each decade women became more and more independent. Today young women would have a hard time imagining such restraints.
